Noslagia project part 3 (Airfix and Esci Japanese)

Hi guys

These aren’t finished yet, the first sets for my “nostalgia project” 1 pose from the Airfix and Esci Japanese sets, need to do some highlights and more work on the bases, but they are well on the way. If you want the files for the bases they can be found in My shop https://www.wargaming3d.com/vendor/dan-dunbar/

Nostalgia project part 2

 Hi guys

I have always want to do a project with really convincing jungle themed bases, so I CAD designed a set, initially I intended to use them on a jungle fantasy themed army, but at a pinch I could use them for my WWII pacific theatre project, my nostalgia project is a project within a project, I’ll be using 1 of each pose of the Airfix, Esci and matchbox Japanese and Australians, all other troops will come from various metals or 3D printed figures.

I usually undercoat my figures black, I feel like using grey this time, I may paint them using a slightly different painting technique than I usually use, I think they are looking great undercoated on these bases, looking forward to painting them.

Nostalgic and Pacific project

 Hi guys

As a kid growing up in the 70-80s I imagine like many of you, I grew up on Airfix, Esci and matchbox figures, I was lucky enough to have every WWII figure set at one time or another, losing my collection in a fire in the 90s, until now I have avoided the nostalgia bite because I have over the years bought many of these subjects (European theatre) and have them in my stash, I generally use metal figures and only use plastics when I’m doing heavy conversions e.g my Gebirgsjager or winter Fallschirmjäger armies, however, recently I have seen some Pacific war projects using Airfix and matchbox figures that have given me that nostalgic kick, mostly because I haven’t owned these Pacific war sets since being a kid as I have concentrated on the European theatre.

As I have had the Pacific war on my to do list for a while now I’m taking the opportunity to start it and combine it with a Nostalgic project, the nostalgic project will be to paint at least 1 of each pose of each WWII set from these 3 companies, starting with Japanese and Aussies, I recently purchased the Airfix and Esci/Italeri Japanese sets, if anyone has a set of 1 of each pose of the Matchbox Japanese and Australian available for trade  (I have the Airfix Australians on their way) PM me.

The Airfix Japanese were one of the first sets I owned, I loved these figs as a kid, I was maybe 5-6 years old, I had those and the US marines (I have the marines in my stash somewhere) later I had the Esci and matchbox Japanese and Australians, these 2 sets still have very good moulds, the Italeri figs have almost no flash and thankfully are cast in firm plastic, the Airfix figs are in their usual softer plastic, I remember many of the Airfix figures getting brittle as a kid, I’m hoping they fixed the plastic and this is not still an issue, I’m going to try and give them the best paint job I can, looking forward to this project.

I’ll be adding metal and resin figs to the Pacific project, I will also be doing my usual mix of 3D printed and built model kits for the vehicles.

Pz Gren halftracks almost done.

 Hi guys

I’m so close to finishing these I can taste it, I was away on holidays for a week, got sick with Covid for another and finally got to work on them today, another session to paint a few details, do a final pastel weathering step and decorating the bases and I’ll be done (apart from adding a command figure to the Pz III battalion commanders tank, and the 39H artillery obs vehicle)

I now have multiple projects drawing my attention for a bit of a change from the 21st Pz Div, Hungarian armour, Japanese, Soviet marines or combat engineers, Normandy Brits, 1940 BEF, so many project vining for my attention, where to go? I’ve also been forming a “Nostalgic” project in my mind, painting 1 of each pose of all the Airfix, Esci/Itsleri and Matchbox WWII sets, I have a few sets in my stash, and have just bought the Airfix and Italeri Japanese and Airfix Australians, will be a fun project I think.
