Hi guys, I am in a real hobby slump, I have to many ongoing projects and the lead pile is to big, and I feel like I never finish anything, I am searching for the motivation to pick up an unfinished project and work it till its finished, maybe crowed participation will give me some drive, so please vote on what you would like me to work and post WIP updates on, what would you like to see more of? the most votes will determine wht I work on.
The choices are
1) 15mm 40K
2) 15mm Napoleonics
3) 1/72 WWII
4) 15mm WWI Germans or French
5) 28mm Impetus Roman
6) 28mm SAGA Norman
7) 15mm Near future Russian
8) 15mm Fantasy
Number 6 - because if you're in a slump, paint something that will be relatively quick to complete.
ReplyDeleteSomething you've got a passion for, or a deadline to make. Otherwise, I'd like to see your take on near-future Russians...
ReplyDelete3, then 5, then 6!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to say 15mm 40K or 15mm near-future Russian, for my personal preference, but probably a good idea to narrow it down further if you do go with one of those (e.g. a particular race/type of force for 40K).
ReplyDeleteA tactic I use to help motivate me towards completing projects is to create a checklist at the start, & tick-off each model/squad as I assemble it & then paint it. Then you get to see the progress towards the goal.
So far
ReplyDelete3) - 1
5) - 1
6) - 2
7) - 2
Oh, and
ReplyDelete1) - 1
#8. 15mm fantasy.
ReplyDeleteYou know I'd love to see some more 1/72 WW2 from you, but I also think Saga could be a good idea - you don't need huge numbers and that 28mm stuff can be quite relaxing to paint.
ReplyDeleteBuy a box of X-wing and some ships. They are pre-painted. Play, have fun.
ReplyDeleteThen return to your pile in a little while and paint whatever tickles your fancy.
I say do WWI Eastern Front! Peter Pig makes Russians and Austro-Hungarians. Great fun.
ReplyDeleteI hit a slump a couple of years ago, stressing about stuff that should have been relaxing and enjoyable. I even gave a great deal of thought to packing it in altogether, so I sold off about 15 armies in various stages of painting and now I'm concentrating on just a couple of things at anyone time. I'm a lot happier, things now get done to a higher standard, a lot quicker and I now actually look forward to getting the paints out.
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't think it's a good idea to ask a load of gamers what to paint, what's important is what do you want to paint? I'm not saying that you should sell off your figures, I would suggest you pick one or two projects that you want to see finished, stuff that gives you a buzz and just concentrate your efforts on them. Put the rest in a box away out of sight and see how you feel in six months time.
But if you really want suggestions, I pick the Trojan Wars ;0)
Agree with Steve - however, you ask:
ReplyDeleteIn this order
5, 8, 3
Yup think of something you want to do the most and then set a deadline for a game with a friend. That should then give you more of incentive to finish off a project.
ReplyDelete#7
ReplyDeleteI find watching movies & reading novels related to a subject helps me out of a slump. Or sometimes a new project....
8 15mm fantasy
ReplyDeleteok, its either, Normans, WWII, or Fantasy, some good suggestion, might read the latest Saxon stories and do some Normans for Saga, thanks for the help guys.
ReplyDeleteI vote for:
ReplyDelete15mm Near future Russian
Speaking as a blog reader, your 15mm 40k work is outstanding and the most fun to read. But I don't play 40k and can't sculpt worth a tinker's darn, so it doesn't give me anything I can use at the table.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as a 15mm fantasy wargamer, your 15mm fantasy stuff is inspirational, and something I get more use out of. So I'm going to vote for #1.
6, 7, or 8 would interest me the most, but I think you should go with thatever paintjob inspires you the most.
ReplyDelete1) 15mm 40K
ReplyDelete7) 15mm Near future Russian
3) 1/72 WWII
8) 15mm Fantasy
I personally work on several projects at once in fits & starts so that It doesn't become boring . :) .....
Keep up the great work you do
Z
3, 4 and 5 all at the same time! Not on the same board of course, just all on the painting table.
ReplyDeleteWhat would the 1/72nd WW2 be, mainly infantry, mainly vehicles or a bit of both?
I was going to do 15mm WW1 before I got some in 28mm so show me how to do that one!
Impetus basing is quite good if you do it right, it's almost a mini scene.
But of course, I still have a mountain to be painted, do you have any spare time?
Hi David, I have tones of WWII stuff, vehicles and figures, (you can see a lot of finished stuff in my WWII label) but I have a few metal German infantry undercoated.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge lead pile and dwindling time unfortunately.
8) 15mm Fantasy
ReplyDelete1) 15mm 40K
Why? For me it is the scale (quicker to paint) skirmish orientated (so fewer minis to reach a goal) more colourful (so less depressing to look at) more escapist (not based on real history) er..
Okay, bit obtuse. But I would agree with clearing away non-project work. I need to do it myself. Constantly spying some nice figures prepped on the shelf and decide to paint them up instead. And before you know it another rabbit hole.
