What do you think of this style and size mech for 15mm?

Hi guys, what do you think of this Mech model? (the grey one, not the green), is it to big to use with 15mm? I got it cheap from Hobby links Japan, the head is a similar shape to the Khurasan Mekanoids and was thinking of using it as a large walker in a Mekanoid army, I usually prefer Battle tech type mechs then Gundum style, but it sort of looks like a large version of the Mekanoid, I don't like the size of the weapon, so will either drop it and use arm mounted weapons, or change it from a long sniper type to a short carbine type of rifle.

  1. I think it's kind of huge for a 15mm game (as opposed to matching 15mm scale, which is fine).

  2. Dan,

I think it is in scale the only items I would change would be the weapon make it more of a rail gun, get rid of the magazine and shorten it and do some work on the head so it was more cockpit like perhaps

    my two cents

    cheers

  3. As a large Walker I don't see any issue with it. If you're planning on making some custom changes I'd definitely alter the gun. Shorten the barrel and beef the whole thing up with maybe some power cables in greenstuff. The head also needs enlarging if its intended to be a cockpit.

Interesting model though. I look forward to seeing where you take this.

  4. I guess it could work as a kind of superheavy.

  5. I'd use it as a superheavy walker, definitely ditch the rifle, mechs this big holding weapons just look really dumb to me, better off with integrated weaponry.

The head definitely has the right look for the mechanoids, not sure how much use you'll get out of it in games tho, more of a titan than a mech.

  6. Dan, I would suggest trying to beef up the legs a little. That might make the size more believable.

  7. Beefier legs, shorten rifle. Head is okay if pilots are in chest. A hatch would be good.

  8. There's reason why the cockpit can't be in the chest. The pilot would be better protected that way. The head could just contain a pile of sensors. The scale is about perfect for 15mm: it's about the same height as a Battletech mech would be. However, you're going to need a much larger table than you would normally use in a 15mm game if you want to field that as a functional gaming piece rather than an objective to be secured or defended during repairs.

  9. I think it could work as a super heavy type walker.

Just shoulder mount the heavy gun, and replace the fore-arms with integral guns/rocket pods, and you are good to go. beefing up the legs would help too I think.

  10. Thanks guys, your answers have given me a plan, I will try and shorten it 1 or 2cm, re work the gun, if that doesn't work, mount weapons from the elbows, and beef up the legs, as far as the head, I was going to use this with the Mekaniods who are an AI race, so there would be no pilot, essential a big robot.

  11. I can see it working. And it seams to fits with what you want to use it as. Glad I'm not playing against it ;)
